Who we are

AlarmFriends ("we", "us") is a social alarm clock app that lets you set alarms and wake up together with friends. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the rights you have. AlarmFriends is operated by GGWP ehf., Iceland. For any privacy question, contact support@alarmfriends.app.

Information we collect

Account and profile

Your email address, display name, avatar initials, theme and appearance preferences, and the time you accepted our terms.

Authentication

Sign in is handled by our backend provider, Supabase. You can sign in with Apple, with Google, or with a code sent to your email. If you use Sign in with Apple or Google we receive your name and email from them, nothing else. Apple may give you a private relay email, which works fine.

Alarms and wake activity

Your alarms, schedules, wake sessions, snoozes, streaks and achievements.

Reminders

The reminders you set: their text, the time or the place they wait for, and whether they are done. A reminder for the morning that you add to an alarm is kept on your phone only.

Reminders you share. You can share a reminder with an accepted friend. If they tap Join, they get the same reminder at the same time, or at the same place, and they see its text, its time or place, and who else is in it. Each of you can take it off your own list at any time.

Social features

Your friends and friend requests, shared alarm crew membership, and the voice or sound suggestions you send or receive.

Voice recordings

If you record audio in the app to use or share as a wake sound, that audio is stored in our secure storage so it can be played back.

Voice nudges

A voice nudge is a short recording you send to someone in your alarm who is still asleep. It is private: only the person you sent it to can play it. It is deleted shortly after they play it, and after 24 hours if they never do. Nudges you send and receive are counted in the app's usage statistics as numbers only; the recording itself is never part of them.

Stop code

If you set a stop code (a QR code or barcode you scan to turn your alarm off), we store only a hash of it, a one way fingerprint. We cannot read the code back from it, and nobody else can either.

Location, only if you use location features

If you create a location based reminder, we process your device's precise location and any places you save. Your location is watched by iOS on your device. We do not receive a stream of where you are, and we never store a location history.

What is stored. Only the places you pick for reminders, with their name, their point on the map and their radius, saved to your account. If you tap "Save where I am as Home", your position at that moment becomes your Home place. Nothing else about your location is sent to us.

Location "Always". We ask for it only after you set your first place reminder, and we explain why before iOS asks. With Always, iOS tells the app when your phone arrives at or leaves a place you picked, so the reminder reaches you even when the app is closed. The check happens on your phone. If you choose "While Using" or "Never", place reminders only work while the app is open, or not at all, and everything else in the app works the same. You can change it at any time in iOS Settings.

Private reminders. By default a location reminder is yours alone. Crossing its boundary triggers a notification on your phone and nothing is shared with anyone.

Shared places. You can invite an accepted friend into one of your location reminders. If they join, then for that place only:

• the people in that place see when each of you arrives or leaves it, as an event with a time and your display name,
• they see the place itself, meaning its name, its point on the map and its radius, because their phone has to watch the same boundary,
• they see who else is in that place.

Nothing else is shared. Not your position between crossings, not your other places, not your other reminders.

Maps and place search (OpenStreetMap). The map in the app is drawn with OpenStreetMap. When you search for a place, the words you type are sent to OpenStreetMap's search service (Nominatim) to find matching places. When you tap "my location" or drop a pin, that one point on the map is sent to the same service so the app can show the street name. OpenStreetMap receives these requests directly from your phone, with your IP address, under its own privacy policy. It receives no account id, no name and no email from us, and nothing is sent unless you use the map.

Calendar, only if you turn it on

If you turn on Calendars in the app (Me, Settings, Calendars) and allow it in iOS, AlarmFriends reads today's events from the calendars you choose, to show them next to your alarms and reminders. It is read only and happens on your phone: your events are never sent to us, never stored by us and never changed. You can turn it off in the app or in iOS Settings at any time.

Notifications

A device push token so we can deliver your alarm and reminder notifications.

Technical data

Basic logs and device information used for reliability, security and abuse prevention. When something fails in the app, it can record what kind of error it was, with the app and iOS version, as part of the usage statistics below (and only when they are on).

Usage statistics in the app (version 1.4.1 and later)

To learn which features people actually use and what to fix, the app records first party usage events (counts only, kept by us, never by an analytics company), for example "an alarm was created", "an alarm was stopped 4 minutes after it rang, after 1 snooze", "a reminder was set for a place" or "the colour was changed to pink". Each event carries only counts, kinds and yes/no answers, the app version, the iOS version, whether it is an iPhone or an iPad, a random id made on your phone when the app is installed, and your account id once you sign in.

What is never in them: the text of your reminders or alarms, your messages, your voice, your location or places, your calendar, and the names of your friends. The list of allowed events is fixed in the app, and anything not on it is dropped on your phone before it is sent.

They go only to our own database (Supabase, EU). No advertising or analytics company receives them, we do not sell them, and they are not used to track you across other apps or websites. There is no advertising id and no tracking prompt.

You can turn it off in the app under Me, Settings, Share usage stats. Off means nothing more is sent, and anything waiting on your phone is deleted.

If you arrive through an invite link or a link from our website that carries a campaign code, the app remembers that code (for example "invite") so we can see which campaigns bring people. It never guesses where you came from.

Cookies and measurement on this website

alarmfriends.app counts visits, which parts of the page were seen and taps on the App Store button, without cookies and without any id: only the page, the campaign tags in the link (utm) and the time.

If you tap Accept in the cookie banner, we also load the Meta Pixel (with Meta's Conversions API) and the Google tag for Google Analytics and Google Ads, which set cookies to count visits and to measure whether our ads bring visitors to the App Store. Meta and Google act as separate controllers for that data under their own policies. If you tap Only necessary, none of it loads. You can change your answer at any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of each page. Your answer is kept on your device for six months.

Our App Store buttons carry Apple's campaign tags, which lets Apple show us how many downloads came from each campaign. That is Apple counting its own store; no cookie is set by us for it.

Shared places, in full

It is opt in, per place. Nothing is shared and nothing is monitored on your phone until you are invited to a specific place and tap Join. Being someone's friend does not put you in their places. Joining one place has no effect on any other.

Who can invite you. Only someone you have already accepted as a friend. You can decline an invite, and declining shares nothing.

What the others see. Only your arrive and leave events at that one place, each with a time and your display name, and the fact that you are in it.

You can stop at any time. Open the place in Reminders and tap Stop sharing. Your phone stops watching that boundary immediately, you stop appearing to the others, and you stop seeing them. The owner can also end the place by deleting the reminder, and blocking someone ends every place you share with them, in both directions.

Retention. Arrive and leave events are kept while the place exists. They are deleted when the owner deletes the reminder, when you delete your account, and when either account is deleted. Events you can no longer see, because you left the place or because one of you blocked the other, stop being visible to you at once.

Blocking. Blocking someone stops all sharing between you: shared places, shared alarms, friend requests and profile search, in both directions.

How we use your information

• To provide the app and sync your alarms, friends and streaks across your devices.
• To deliver the alarm and reminder notifications you set.
• To enable social features, waking up with friends, sending voice wake-ups, streaks, and shared places if you choose to use them.
• To keep the service safe, which covers handling reports, blocks and abuse.
• To understand which features are used and improve the app, from the usage statistics described above (which you can turn off).
• To measure whether our ads work, on the website, only if you accept cookies.
• To meet legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for third party advertising or cross app tracking.

Legal bases (GDPR)

We rely on performance of our contract with you when providing the app, your consent for location, calendar, microphone and push notifications which you can grant or revoke in iOS Settings, your separate consent for each shared place you choose to join, our legitimate interests in security and abuse prevention and in understanding how the app is used (the usage statistics, which you can switch off), your consent for Meta and Google measurement on the website, and our legal obligations.

Who we share data with

We use trusted processors who handle data on our behalf. Supabase provides the database, authentication and file storage, hosted in the European Union. Apple provides push notification delivery and Sign in with Apple. Google provides Sign in with Google, if you choose it. OpenStreetMap draws the map and answers place searches, only when you use the map (see Location above). Vercel hosts this website. Only on the website, and only if you accept cookies, Meta and Google receive measurement data about your visit. Nothing from inside the app goes to them. We may disclose data if required by law.

Data retention

We keep your data while your account is active. When you delete your account your personal data is removed from our systems, including your alarms, your friendships, your reminders and any arrive and leave events from shared places.

Arrive and leave events at a shared place are kept while the place exists and are deleted with it.

Usage statistics are kept for 24 months and then deleted. When you delete your account, the ones already recorded stay only as anonymous counts, with nothing that links them to you.

Your rights

Under the GDPR and Icelandic data protection law you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, port and object to the processing of your personal data, and to withdraw consent at any time. You can also lodge a complaint with the Icelandic Data Protection Authority, Persónuvernd.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account at any time in the app under Me, Settings, then Delete account. This permanently removes your account and personal data. You can also email us to request deletion.

Children

AlarmFriends is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. We will update the date above and notify you in the app of significant changes.

11 October 2026. Added, in plain words, things the app already did: Sign in with Google, place search and "my location" lookups through OpenStreetMap, voice nudges (private to the receiver, deleted after playing or after 24 hours), the stop code stored only as a hash, and error kinds in the usage statistics. Nothing new is collected.
